Main Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 Question 4 Question 5 presented as part of Consuming Places

What was a major catalyst for your endeavor?

My co-creator, David Van Brink, and I had been to a camping event in a high wind, dust storm ridden, blistering hot desert at the Burning Man festival. We noticed two trends with regard to the structures there: they were either poorly cobbled together tarp/string/duct tape beasts that were immediately destroyed by wind and dust, or they were custom made geodesic domes where were impervious to conditions, but took a huge amount of time and money to prepare in advance, or were purchased as a kit. We decided to work on a structure that was geodesic, inexpensive, and quick to prepare without a kit. Our condition was that the structure should have no "custom made parts" like specially measured pieces, pieces which require custom tools to make, pieces that need a home workshop, etc. Our design was a success and is now replicated by hundreds of people at Burning Man and around the world every year.
